Great News for Tourists Ahead of Puja from Darjeeling Himalayan Railway Authority

The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) has brought great news for tourists ahead of the festive season. This Puja, hill travel is set to become even more vibrant. A new opportunity is being introduced for tourists to enjoy a ride on the toy train through a brand-new route. This initiative by DHR aims to enhance the experience of the hill’s scenic beauty and attract more tourists.

The feeling of traveling through the mountain bends while hearing the ‘koo jhik jhik’ sound of the toy train and witnessing the picturesque surroundings is beyond words. To further elevate that experience, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway has taken a significant step. DHR is set to launch toy train services on three new routes for tourists visiting the hills, which has brought much joy in the tourism sector.

According to DHR sources, before Durga Puja, toy train services will be launched on three new routes: Sukna to Rongtong, Kurseong to Mahanadi, and Kurseong to Tung. This move has primarily been taken by the railway authorities to attract more tourists.

During the Puja holiday season, there is a surge of tourists in the hills. Every year, DHR undertakes new initiatives to attract these incoming tourists. In addition to Joy Rides, Red Panda Evening Rides, and Jungle Tea Safari services, DHR also organizes events like Toy Train Day and the Ghoom Festival. The number of joyrides is also increased during this period.

Typically, the joyride from Ghoom to Darjeeling via Batasia Loop is the most in-demand route. As a result, many tourists often miss out on the toy train experience. To ensure that no tourist feels disappointed, services are being launched on three new routes.

On this matter, DHR Director Rishabh Chaudhury stated,
“The toy train service is being improved. Two locomotives are being brought in from Bengaluru. New coaches are also being built. We will be launching toy train services on three short routes for tourists. If everything goes well, the service will be launched before Puja. Sukna, Kurseong, Tung, and Rongtong will be included in this service.”
