2. Durpin Dara Hill & Zang Dhok Palri Phodang (Durpin Monastery)

Durpin Dara means “binocular hill” in the local language. One can indeed get a great view with a cool pair of binoculars. It is one of the two hills connected by a ridge on which the town of Kalimpong stands. The hill commands a panoramic view overlooking the town of Kalimpong, the snow clad Himalayan ranges of Sikkim, the Teesta River and the Jelepla Pass in the distance. A golf course is also there just off the summit. On top of the hill sits the Zang Dhok Palri Monastery which was consecrated by the Dalai Lama in 1976. The monastery holds in its reliquary 108 volumes of the Kangyur, as well as other holy books and scrolls that were moved out of Tibet after the Chinese invasion. This place is uniquely spiritual and one can attain mental peace by simply walking around this magnificent structure. Hilltop monastery built in 1975; holds rare Tibetan scriptures. Panoramic views of Kanchenjunga, Teesta & Rangeet rivers. 


3. Morgan House

A 1930s colonial mansion turned hotel, famed for its architecture and “haunted” stories  .

4. Jhandi

Jhandi is a well known tourist spot in the Gorubathan Block offering glorious sun rise and sun set views, wide angle view of Mount Kanchenjunga and the Nathula Range as well as the Dooars. It is about 16 km from Gorubathan. Throughout the year it is cold and misty here. The rich wildlife here also makes it one of the most picturesque destinations for tourists. Home-stays and private eco huts are also available here for tourists

5. Icchey Gaon

It is an upcoming tourist destination having just started off with just a few home stays. The place is famous for bird watching and majestic view of mount Kanchenjunga, neighbouring Sikkim and Darjeeling and surrounding areas. Nestled in the hilltop surrounded by beautiful cinchona and sacred Coco Mendo trees, it has the potentials of becoming a model eco village. The government can procure horses/ponies and can give those to the local self help groups who can use those for horse riding activities for the tourists. There are existing trekking routes from here to Sillary Gaon and Algarah.These can be developed as well. The approach road may be developed after consultation with the Cinchona Plantation Board. At the entry point of the spot, a loop in the line of Batasia may be developed. A sunset / sunrise point may also be developed.

6. Silleri Gaon

Sillerigaon ,a small village under the Cinchona Plantation area under Kashyong Gram Panchayat of Kalimpong II block is a picturesque.

7. Rikkisum

It offers a stunning 360 degree view of Mount Kanchanjangha along with views of Darjeeling/ Kalimpong/ Sikkim and is often considered by many as the best view point of the snow clad peaks in the entire region. It is located within a distance of 10 kilometers from Algarah. The approach road from the main road to the hill top is in deplorable condition. There is a dilapidated bungalow on the hill top. It was built by the British in 1902 and subsequently burnt down during the agitation of the 1980s.

The approach road can be developed. Alongside a trekking route for brisk trekking activities can be developed as well. On the hilltop a resort with 15-20 rooms can be constructed. A sunrise point may also be constructed.

8. Nimbong

Another significant and important area in respect of tourism is Nimbong , administered by the Nimbong Gram Panchayat this place is 60 Kms. from Siliguri and can be reached by private vehicles in three hours. The charm of this place is its complete isolation from the madding crowd of metropolitan life. Arriving here one gets to a place of peace in the lap of nature away from all the worries of life. From Nimbong Dara view point one can have a view of the Old Village market which is situated in the heart of Nimbong. The weather can be severely cold in winter and it is rather remote, but that is no obstacle to the tourist with the spirit of adventure. There are home stays providing accommodation to the tourist willing to travel deep inside kalimpong district for a quiet getaway from the humdrum of civilization. Locally cooked food can be availed from households, and a sense of satisfaction can be felt by experiencing the simple people of Nimbong, needless to say one will yearn to visit this place again.

The Colonial era boarding school is 10 Kms away from Kalimpong town. A tourist’s paradise this place has many attractions which provide ample opportunities for tourists to unwind.

The attractions such as Paragliding for the adventure minded, Science centre and Kalimpong water reservoir, are someof the attractions which a person visiting here does not forget.
